This is a biography of Ukraine-born Soviet film producer, writer and artist Alexander Petrovich Dovzhenko. The majority of the information in the book is in the form of an autobiography, with large extracts of Dovzhenko's own writing detailing his early years and later his professional life. A large number of photographs from his personal life, and stills from his films are spread throughout the book. The book was dedicated to Bill Douglas by the author Julia Solntseva 'with best wishes' on 21/11/1976.
