Illustrated monthly magazine for July to December 1896 (Volume XII). Collection of fictional stories including stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. Magazine contains factual articles such as a piece analysing the use of microscopes in biological settings. Magazine contains a large volume on 'New Photography' showcasing new shadow imagery as well as the introduction of x-ray technology in photographing human and animal skeletons. The Prince's Derby of 1896 also detailed, with discussion around the events of the race and how the new magnified 'Lightning Photography' created by R.W. Paul and Birt Acers -who is unmentioned in the magazine- was used to capture it (pp.134-140). The art of silhouetting/silhouettes and their late nineteenth-century revival is also discussed and analysed in chapter 'Great Men's Shadows' (pp.580-587). Illustrated interview with Indian prince Ranjitsinhji also notable.
