Article in The Guardian review on 13th October by critic Danny Leigh looking at a recent trend in film of showing young people, especially teenagers, as the victims of violence by adults and relates this to a contemporary narrative of a generational war on the young. Leigh contrasts this with films in the post-war period that depicted a fear of the young as a social threat. The recent films he references include two films about the Utoya massacre including comments from the director of one of the films, Paul Greengrass; Recent hits based on YA novels such as 'The Hate U Give' and 'The Hunger Games', 'Battle Royale' and films connected with high school shootings.
