Programme for the 2019 BFI London Film Festival which ran from 2nd to 13th October 2019 across venues in Central London. The festival's opening night gala was Armando Iannucci's The Personal History of David Copperfield, adapted by from Charles Dickens' novel, and the closing gala was Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman'. Other gala screenings include: 'Knives Out', 'A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood', Michael Winterbottom's 'Greed', 'Hope Gap', 'Jojo Rabbit', David Michod's 'The King', an adaptation of Shakespeare's Henry V, Noam Baumbach's 'Marriage Story', Pablo Larrain's Ema, Abominable, Brazilian film Bacurau, Korean film 'The Dude in Me', Judy and Punch, 'The Lighthouse', 'Official Secrets', 'The Peanut Butter Falcon', 'The Two Popes', and Bruce Springsteen's 'Western Stars'. Special Presentations are 'Bad Education', Roger Michell's 'Blackbird', 'Bombay Rose', 'The Cave', Takashi Miike's 'First Love', Lukas Moodysson's Gosta, 'Krabi 2562, an archive restoration of George Pearson's 'Love, Life and Laughter' with Betty Balfour, Michael Caton-Jones's 'Our Ladies', Celine Sciamma's 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire' and Sarah Gavron's 'Rocks'. Ten films are in official competition and these are; 'Fanny Lye Deliver'd', 'Honey Boy', 'Lingua Franca', 'La Llorona', 'Moffie', 'Monos', 'The Other Lamb', 'The Perfect Candidate', 'Saint Maud' and 'Rose Plays Julie'. There is also a first featrure completion (which includes Mati Diop's 'Atlantics'), and a documentary competition. The rest of the festival's programme is divided into a number of strands; Love (including 'Ordinary Love), Debate (including 'Martin Eden' and 'Seberg'), Laugh, Dare, Thrill, Cult, Journey, Create, Experimenta, Family and the international Archive section Treasures which includes David Lunch's 'The Elephant Man', Jean Epstein's 'Finis Terrae' Rosi's 'Illustrious Corpses', Corman's 'The Masque of the Red Death' and Bunuel's 'Los Olvidados'.
