Three page cover article by Robbie Collin from The Daily Telegraph Review, 26 July 2014, attempting to tell the story of the American film industry in ten films - inspired by a recent Sotheby's auction of ten items spanning 2,000 years of western art. The films selected are One Week (Buster Keaton, 1920), It Happened One Night (Frank Capra, 1934), Stagecoach (John Ford, 1939), Out of the Past (Jacques Tourneur, 1947), An American in Paris (Vincente Minnelli, 1951), Point Blank (John Boorman, 1967), The Conversation (Francis Ford Coppola, 1974), Back to the Future (Robert Zemeckis, 1985), Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino, 1994) and The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008.) Collin provides a few comments on each film, suggesting how they indicate the changing directions being taken by Hollywood.
