Card and paper small kaleidoscope. Paper is marbled and the object end contains fragments of coloured glass chips. The kaleioscope contains 3 mirrors which are angled to create 8 repeats within the image and movement of the glass pieces is created by rotation of the kaleidoscope itself. Dated 1881 provided from evidence of newspaper used as padding for mirrors. This kaleidoscope looks as if it may be homemade which would be common at the time of instructions for making kaleidoscopes were available in publications such as The Boys Own.
