1792 engraving by James Gillray, depicting a trade mission made by Lord Macartney to the Emperor of China. It’s an interesting satirical portrayal of eighteenth century politics and attitudes towards other cultures. On the reverse is ‘Sin, Death and the Devil,’ another political satire by James Gillray, depicting the conflict between Pitt and Thurlow, imagined as a scene from Paradise Lost.
