Based on a collection of unpublished photographs and other ephemera about the filming of 'East of Eden' (Kazan, 1954) in the Californian town of Mendocino, this book provides insights into the locations used and the involvement of the local community, the chronology of the production, and the construction of special sets to provide the necessary historic detail. There are over 100 photographs, including many of James Dean, Elia Kazan and others on set in Mendocino, along with locals who acted as extras, 'now and then' pictures of buildings and a street map of the town.
