'Frankie Howerd - The Illustrated Biography'. Author: Nick Middles. (Hardback, published 2000) The biography charts Howerd's appearance on the chat show circuit in the 1970s and 1980s. The book looks at Howerds life and personality, as a highly private and shy person the book looks at the enigma of his personality, which was shy and withdrawn, except when performing in front of crowds of people. The book looks at the comic's work with focus on his rolls in several Carry On films, The Great St Trinian's Train Robbery and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Using interviews with people who knew and worked with Howerd (and from photographs taken throughout his career is "a tribute" to the comedian.
