Biography by Carolyn McGivern of John Wayne, based on transcripts of interviews from the UK and archive material from the BFI and SMU Dallas, supplemented with personal interviews carried out with some of the actor's friends. The book tries to get behind the stereotypical image of 'The Duke' by concentrating more on his personal life and hobbies, relationships with his children and grandchildren and long struggles with ill-health.
