Article on the art of Bill Gold, who designed film posters for over 1000 films during a long career that stretched from 1940 to his retiral in 2004. Several of his designs went through as many as 20 or 30 versions before studio bosses were satisfied, and the illustrations show rejected versions of posters for Unforgiven, The Exorcist, Pulp Fiction and Mystic River.
