Account of the making of 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind', written by actor Bob Balaban who played Truffaut's French interpreter in the 1977 film. Consisting of a series of diary entries, Balaban's account describes casting and pre-production, the background to the film's central ideas, filming in intense heat in Alabama, working in India, and finally the movie's release and critical reception. Illustrated with numerous on-set photographs in colour and B&W, with an introduction by director Steven Spielberg and full list of cast and crew. This is a revised and expanded version of an earlier diary (EXEBD 14945), published to coincide with the film's 25th.
