Play by Martin McDonagh, published the year after its premiere at the Royal National Theatre in 1996. 'The Cripple of Inishmaan' follows a remote Irish community as they respond to news that Hollywood director Robert Flaherty is coming to the Aran Islands to film 'Man of Aran' - a real historical event that took place in 1934. A still from the film is used to illustrate the front cover. The play's main concern is with a young crippled boy, Billy, who is desperate to get a role in the film, and McDonagh's script captures the webs of gossip, rumours and storytelling that characterise island life.
