Lantern slide depicting an assumed biblical scene of Christians being attacked by animals in a coliseum. Illustration is colour tinted by hand and made by Marcy Sciopticon Co., 1008 Walnut Street, Philadelphia. L.J. Marcy was the American inventor of the Sciopticon lantern and developed a unique oil lamp which used parallel wicks to enhance the brightness of the projection in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The slide can be removed from the frame. 83 X 100 mm.
