Lobby card for the 1942 British patriotic war film, 'In Which We Serve'. Directed, produced, starring and written by Noel Coward (and co-directed by David Lean), the film was made during WWII with the assistance of the Ministry of Information who offered advice on what would make good propaganda and facilitated the release of military personnel. Coward was inspired by the exploits of Captain Lord Louis Mountbatten, who was in command of the destroyer 'HMS Kelly' when it was sunk during the Battle of Crete. The film starred Noel Coward, John Mills, Bernard Miles and Celia Johnson. The still on the lobby card depicts Celia Johnson as Mrs Kinross (the main character's wife), and two children having tea (Townly identifies them on the reverse as Lavinia and Bobby, played by Ann Stephens and Daniel Massey). There is also a maid in the scene who stands to the left of the frame; Johnson in the centre and the two children to the right. Seemingly, Johnson's character has been told bad news as she appears shocked or upset - possibly when news of Captain Kinross' ship has been destroyed reaches them. On the reverse of the lobby card, Townly has stuck the cast list with additional notes about the the production below.
