Deborah Kerr

Critical study of the British actress Deborah Kerr by Sarah Street. Kerr was a successful actress, first in the UK and later in the US and the book assesses her career in broadly chronological fashion, emphasising the increasingly varied nature of her roles. The study focuses on particular aspects of Kerr's performances, such as facial expression, gesture, voice and costume and analyses key roles including 'The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp', 'Black Narcissus', 'From Here to Eternity', 'An Affair to Remember', 'The Innocents' and 'Bonjour Tristesse.' The book also considers the extent to which Kerr maintained a core persona in spite of the different contexts in which she worked and looks at her cultural significance and reputation.
