The Bill Douglas Trilogy and Comrades were both recently released on a 3-disc dual format edition by the BFI.

The Bill Douglas Trilogy [BFIB1113] includes the following features:

  • Bill Douglas: Intent on Getting the Image (2006, 63 mins), a new documentary about Bill Douglas’s work (DVD only)
  • Come Dancing (1970, 15 mins), Bill Douglas’s remarkable student short (DVD only)
  • Archive interview with Bill Douglas (DVD only)
  • Illustrated booklet containing newly commissioned essays, notes and credits

Comrades [BFIB1140] includes the following features:

  • Lanterna Magicka – Bill Douglas and the Secret History of Cinema (DVD only, 2009, 60 mins)
  • Visions of: Comrades (2009, 15 mins) cast-members’ recollections (DVD only)
  • Home and Away (DVD only, Michael Alexander, 1974, 30 mins)
  • Illustrated booklet with essays, production material, credits

These editions of The Bill Douglas Trilogy and Comrades are available to be purchased from the BFI store as is the 1984 film Sleepwalker by Saxon Logan in which Bill played the lead role.

In 2013, The Bill Douglas Trilogy was released in France on DVD to much critical acclaim and interest from the public.

 

Following the huge success of the French release of the trilogy, Comrades was released in French cinemas for the first time on 23rd July 2014 by UFO Distribution. A full page article celebrating its release featured in the 22nd July edition of Le Monde, a preview of which can be found here.
