August 4th 1888 edition featuring an article including print illustrations of Edison's phonograph at work in an exhibition at the Crystal Palace and receiving a message from America. The phonograph took sound through a horn which passed the sound into a diaphragm which then vibrated, moving a stylus that pressed into a connected wax cylinder.
