A collection of critical writings on cinema by poet Philippe Soupault (who worked alongside Apollinaire and the surrealists during the 20s) from 1918 through to the period of industrialisation and commercialisation at the beginning of the 1930s. Subjects include the tyranny of the studios, the star system and the pros and cons of superproductions as well as the education of the public and their powers of evaluation.
