The term Kaffir is now an extremely offensive term. It's archaic meaning was 'a member of a group of southern African Bantu-speaking peoples' but during Apartheid 'it was commonly used as an offensive racial slur, and its offensiveness has only increased over time'. This term is now considered to be one of the most offensive words in South African English.
