Dual biography of Marlene Dietrich and Leni Riefenstahl, born in Berlin in 1901 and 1902 respectively, by German historian Karin Wieland, translated into English by Shelley Frisch. Wieland's study charts side by side the contrasting paths of the two women's lives during a turbulent period. Dietrich's appearance in 'The Blue Angel' (1930) was the start of a distinguished Hollywood career while Riefenstahl went on to direct Nazi propaganda films, including 'Triumph of the Will' (1935). Dietrich died in 1992 and Riefenstahl in 2003.
