We are launching a new series of podcasts with experts from the University of Exeter and beyond talking about artefacts in the museum. An item in the collection forms a springboard for a discussion on wider aspects of moving image history.

The first podcast in the series is from PhD student Chris Grosvenor who discusses our Moy-Bastie camera (EXE BD 69023). The camera previously belonged to J.B McDowell (whose name is signed in the magazine), who was one of the filmmakers who shot the film of The Battle of the Somme in 1916. We believe that this was the camera that McDowell used on the battlefield. Chris is studying film shows for troops in the First World War.

The interview was conducted by Ria Yole-Smith and James Pearson and was edited by Alice Clements and Elliana Hamer.
