We are proud to present a special gothic magic lantern show on Saturday 12 December with renowned lanternist "Professor" Mervyn Heard. Mervyn will be creating sensations and shocks through the art of light and shadow and demonstrating the appeal of the magic lantern, the most popular form of the moving image prior to cinema. The performance is suitable for adults and children over 12 (those not easily scared!).
The show will run from 3pm to around 4.30 and is free, although you can book a seat by emailing us at [email protected]. It will take place in the Roborough Studios just opposite the museum. The Museum will be open all day from 10am to 5pm for you to explore our great collection of magic lanterns and slides, and of course many other moving image devices and film ephemera.
We look forward to seeing you there!
