Unusual book which uses a fictional episode - a single weekend in which Gregg Toland taught Orson Welles the basics of cinematography - to illustrate a range of camera techniques, including lighting, panning, insert shots, camera positions and zoom lenses. A narrative account of the weekend's events and the men's conversation, both of which contain bawdy humour, is accompanied by black & white sketches and diagrams illustrating the techniques and equipment discussed. There are also tables of settings for camera speed, colour filters, 35mm footage etc.
