Made in Germany. Rectangular strips of glass of three different sizes, with pink paper edging glued on so not to cut children’s hands. Slides are transfers or decals stuck onto the glass strips. Transfer printed not hand painted. With the improvements of printing techniques on glass, mass produced slides like these 3 sets became possible. This type of transfer slide was produced in the many thousands over a period from the mid-1800s to the 1920s or so, and shipped all over the world. Hundreds, if not thousands, exist. 40900/1-11: large size set: sailing scene; cycle, horse and cart racing; travel; exotic birds; snow activities; children's games; comic scene at a barber's shop; jungle hunt. 40900/12-20: middle size set: assortment of characters' heads; clothed animals, some playing musical instruments, including a toad. 40900/21-26: Small long form slides, of boating scene and windmills, bathing scene, and master and his dog.
