Collection of sixteen essays by Canadian actor and novelist Alexander Knox (1907-95), edited with an introduction by Anthony Slide. Most of these are studies of actors and actresses: George Abbott, Fred Allen, Sara Allgood, Dana Andrews, George Arliss, Yvonne Arnaud, Lionel Atwill, Walter Brennan and Harry Davenport, Walter Huston, Edna Mae Oliver, Laurence Olivier, Orson Welles and there are also three essays on different aspects of acting: On Playing Wilson, Acting and Behaving, Performance Under Pressure plus Threnody for Five Actors, all victims of the Blacklist: J. Edward Bromberg, John Garfield, Canada Lee, Bud (Roman) Bohnen, Mady Christians. The collection is prefaced by a 22-page essay on Knox by Anthony Slide.
